Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) is seeking an Outreach Coordinator.
The Outreach Coordinator will help to build and strengthen IMET’s links with the Baltimore and surrounding community, coordinate a summer internship program, and assist faculty in managing interns for research experiences. The person in this position will be a key team member in designing programs to build awareness and community participation in environmental science. This person will fulfill an important role for IMET and will often be a public point of contact for IMET.
The Outreach Coordinator manages the day-to-day activities related to the IMET Undergraduate Summer Internship Program, coordinates the IMET annual Open House, high school internships. facilities tours, tracking interns after their IMET experiences and administering surveys to obtain program feedback and assess impacts. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills will be needed. The person in this role will work with colleagues on outreach proposal submissions. The Outreach Coordinator will assist the faculty in placing and managing interns for research experiences.

Job Duties:
- Lead and coordinate outreach and community engagement by IMET researchers.
- Coordinate the IMET Undergraduate Summer Internship Program as part of a team.
- Plan, organize, and implement community special events, including the IMET Open House.
- Oversee data collection forms such as questionnaires and checklists.
- Assist others in following proper procedures for collecting and recording data are met.
- Provide guidance for the activities of outreach personnel, including graduate student volunteers.
- Determine work priorities; assign and review work including written reports and recommendations; provide guidance and training.
- Seek funding through outreach proposal writing and submission.

Masters degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Education, or a related area. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of directly relevant experience will also be eligible to apply.
Demonstrated experience in outreach to students and/or the general public. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate will be capable of establishing strong rapport with the stakeholders and will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferences:
A familiarity with Baltimore’s diverse neighborhoods, schools or stakeholders is preferred. Prior outreach in science is preferred.

Location: Baltimore, MD
Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000
