City on a Hill is one of Massachusetts’ first charter schools with the 2023-2024 school year being our 29th year of operation. As we prepare for another school year, City on a Hill is seeking dedicated educators and operations staff to support the empowerment of our students.
About the Director of Administration
As a member of the City on a Hill Charter Public School Leadership Team, the Director of Administration will work closely with other administrators to lead the school’s strategic planning process, provide project management across teams, and work to execute City on a Hill’s priorities.
The Director of Administration serves as the chief project manager for critical initiatives that extend across departments. In addition, the Director of Administration is responsible for moving forward strategic projects that aim to further our mission and impact. This is the right role for a person whose passion is defining excellence and working towards excellence, every single day. The role directly reports to the Executive Director, and manages the Executive Coordinators.
Responsibilities of this Role
Administration & Strategic Projects
- Project manages functional work streams to ensure collective support and implementation of aligned programming towards City on a Hill’s goals;
- Coordinate monthly meetings utilizing project management plans and tools;
- Participates in the definition and development of organization policies and procedures;
- Serve as a critical thought partner, collaborator, and organizer to the Executive Director (ED) and Board of Trustees, while maintaining discretion and confidentiality;
- Communicate on behalf of the ED with Board members, donors, and CoaH staff;
- Creates agendas for Board committee meetings and the full City on a Hill Board of Trustees meetings, ensuring alignment to Board goals and results; and
- Additional duties or ad-hoc projects as assigned by the ED.
Compliance & Reporting
- Manage relationships with City on a Hill’s external stakeholders and partners, including the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and consultants hired to produce external facing deliverables, through training and dotted-line management of the Director of Teacher Development & Compliance; and
- Act as Civil Rights and Title IX Coordinator and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, and conduct investigations, when necessary.
Culture & People Management
- Manage the Executive Coordinators to supporting the School Leadership and Operations Teams to meet their goals and objectives;
- Coordinate anti-racism, equity, and civil rights trainings in collaboration with the Executive Director, Principal, Chief Academic Officer and Human Resources Manager; and
- Collaborate with the Leadership and Human Capital Teams to draft, evaluate, and implement policies that further CoaH’s anti-racist praxis.
Required Qualifications
- A belief that all students can and must learn at high levels and a commitment your own continued learning, particularly as it relates to City on a Hill’s journey to operating as an anti-racist school;
- 5-7 years of experience supporting administrative/operational teams, preferably in an educational and/or nonprofit organization;
- Comfort with giving and receiving feedback on a continuous basis; and
- Ability to independently perform complex tasks, meticulously organize, and prioritize multiple projects while ensuring follow-through.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and proficiency in Google Suite, Divvy, and/or BoardOnTrack software;
- Previous experience managing a diverse team; and
- Knowledge of Massachusetts charter schools and related issues.
