Job Description

Job Summary
The Department of Public Safety is in search of full-time 3rd shift Campus Public Safety Officers to work from 11:00 P.M. - 7:00 A.M..
Duties
- Enforce campus regulations, and federal, state, and city statutes
- Protect the University’s property and persons
- Controlling campus traffic
- Provide security escort service
- Conduct emergency evacuation of the campus, if necessary
Qualifications
- Read, understand, and speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phones
- Must be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills
- Experience with traffic control preferred
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Follow detailed oral and written instructions
- Excellent human relations skills
- Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standards;
- Neat and professional appearance
- Provide quality customer service
- Handle both common and crises at the client site, calmly and efficiently
- May be required to use protective devices such as pepper spray or baton
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and currently must be licensed to carry a firearm through the Watchman’s Division, St. Louis County Private Security Section. An earned Associate's Degree or equivalent earned credit hours from an accredited institution is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- May be subjected to adverse working conditions or physical conditions including possible injury in the apprehension of violators of codes
- Occasionally lift at least 50 pounds
- May be required to use protective devices such as steel-toed shoes, handguns, tear gas, and/or batons.
- May be required to work irregular hours
- Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)
- Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during the shift
- Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties
- Run as needed
- Constant use of arms, hands, and fingers while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks
- Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, and view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordination
- Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain, or heat;
- Constant mental alertness and attention to detail are required while setting priorities and following up on assignments
- Must be able to stay alert and awake at all times
