Keene State College’s Construction Management Program, part of the Department of Safety and Occupational Health Applied Sciences (SOHAS), combines the expertise of the SOHAS, Business Management, and Architecture programs. Launched in Fall 2020, it quickly became the college’s fastest-growing program, expanding from 3 students in 2020 to nearly 90 today. The program focuses on the development of professional knowledge, critical thinking and problem solving as these elements relate to Keene State College’s college wide learning outcomes.
Course Descriptions:
SAFE 205 Construction Methods- Fall 2024, MW 12-1:45pm and Spring 2025, MW 2pm-3:45pm, TTH 12-1:45pm
This course provides a basic understanding of construction methods, processes, equipment and project management tools. It explores their use and impact on risk management in construction.
CMGT 300 Construction Management- Fall 2024, MW 10am11:45am and TTH 2pm-3:45pm
Introductory course exploring Construction Management as a major or career. Focus on understanding the construction managers role and fundamentals of construction management responsibilities and processes from concept through completion. Topics include surveying, reading construction documents, cost estimating, project scheduling and OSHA standards as fundamental aspects of effective construction project management.
CMGT 400 Construction Management II - Spring 2025, MW 10am-11:45am
This course builds on the principles and practices of construction management covered in Construction Management I. Topics include sustainable construction practices, financial accounting, cost analysis and cost control for construction projects; construction law and legal issues; and professional ethics of construction managers.
Our students come from diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds, with a high percentage of first-generation college students. By the time Keene State College students complete their undergraduate experience they develop critical thinking, creative inquiry, intercultural competence, civic engagement, and commitments to well-being and to sustainability that will serve them as active citizens and lifelong learners. KeeneRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field
- At least 3 years of professional, applied experience outside of academia, demonstrating effective application of construction management principles in practical settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in key areas such as Estimating, Plan Reading/Building Information Modeling (BIM), Commercial Construction, Scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference may be given to candidates with teaching experience and who possess board certified designations and to those that maintain their status as an engineer.
- Additionally, the College has identified desirable qualifications that support our commitment to creating and maintaining a diverse campus community including the ability to speak a second language or to bring a multicultural perspective to the campus.
