Essential Job Duties
Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Paint multiple surfaces to include walls, ceilings, case work, fixtures, handrails, bollards, equipment, and other surfaces
- Clean, sand, patch, prime, and prepare areas to be painted
- Match paint colors and finishes across campus
- Mix paint using the tint machine
- Regularly inspect work areas, vehicles for safety and hazardous materials use and disposal compliance
- Review plans and the various painting products including proper usage, required personal protective equipment (PPE), and waste disposal
- Report all infractions, accidents, and injuries immediately, and within University guidelines
- Assist with power washing on campus as needed
- Assist other Trade Shops’ unit as needed
Other Responsibilities
- This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University, and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternative schedule
- May assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor
Minimum Experience/Education
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications
- Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters
- Journeyman level commercial painting experience
- Skilled in the mixing of paints and in matching and blending colors
- Knowledge concerning the differences between coatings and their use
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently and up to 90 plus pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer commercial painting experience
Required License or Certification
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained
