Description
Schedules, supervises, coordinates and monitors the activities of Campus Police Officers, Campus Security Officers and Communications Personnel (Dispatchers) to ensure that proper, efficient and uniform security and police services are available and present on college grounds and properties at all times; trains personnel; reviews performance and incident reports for referral to Chief of Campus Police or other law enforcement personnel, as circumstances require
Examples of Duties
Assist the Chief of Police with special projects as assigned.
Trains, supervises and assists in the evaluation of Campus Police Officers, Campus Security Officers as assigned by Chief of Campus Police.
Assumes primary responsibility for all shifts as assigned; schedules personnel and adjusts work hours to meet needs; provides for periodic rotation of posts and adequate coverage of all security stations, surveillance routes, etc., especially during court appearances.
Evaluates reports of Officers to check for errors, lack of information, incompleteness, etc.
Coordinates special events with college and/or local police authorities as it pertains to traffic or crowd control or security measures.
Oversees, and maintains equipment inventory, ensure the proper maintenance and use of equipment, including vehicles, radios, time clock, weapons, public address system.
Confers with Chief of Campus Police, State's Attorneys, Judges, Public Defenders, police, etc., in matters or incidents concerning the College.
Prepares reports as required; may investigate incidents by discussing the matter with officers and witnesses; refers matters to Chief of Campus Police and conveys orders and procedural directives to staff.
Advises campus police officers and other concerned parties as to whether an incident is a criminal offense or violation of college rules; advises visitors and College personnel in security precautions or proper conduct.
Reports, documents and recommends potential disciplinary matters concerning security personnel to Chief of Campus Police.
Participates in the performance of other duties normally performed by Campus Police Officers such as responding to emergencies, making arrests, surveilling or patrolling areas, mediating disputes; provides direction and guidance to other personnel in conjunction with the above when personally involved.
Instructs Campus Police personnel in procedures and policies of the Department and the College.

Typical Qualifications
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Possess a current Illinois driers license.
No criminal record of convictions for misdemeanors or felonies.
Successfully pass a criminal background check; have no criminal record of convictions of felonies or misdemeanors.
May be required to pass a physical examination.
Up to 2 years' experience in police security or military services or related work.
Must have successfully complete the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course as prescribed by Illinois law.
Police Command leadership knowledge and practical experience.
5 years police personnel/law enforcement or military related supervisory experience.
Knowledge of chain of evidence procedure, policy, and compliance of Illinois Compiled Statue.
Understanding, implementation and knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS), NIMS, Hazardous Material Response, Surveillance, Mass Event Crowd Control, Critical Infrastructure Protection and Response, Crisis Management, all aspects of criminal and accident Investigations, Internal Investigations and some familiarity in Cyber Security investigation.
Military/Para-military practicums and theory.
Masterly skilled in police report review, employee evaluation and assessment.
Supplemental Information
Preferred Qualifications:
- College coursework in police or law enforcement training.
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Associate Degree or equivalent education.
- School of Police Staff and Command
- Grant research, application and management experience.
- Federal Law Enforcement Basic Training Center Completion
Status/Benefits:
This is a Temporary/Part-Time position for no more than 25 hours a week, 26 weeks a year. The salary is $30 per hour.
