Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the College's Assistant Vice President (Administration), the incumbent has responsibility for the purchase of large quantities of materials, equipment, and supplies for Westchester Community College. In addition, as directed by the College President and/or Vice President (Administrative Services), the incumbent serves on panels and committees as well as researches issues related to higher education and College operations and administration to provides analysis, advice and recommendations. Supervision is exercised over a small number of employees. The incumbent will be responsible for attending College Board of Trustee meetings and County meetings and make appropriate presentations as necessary. The Deputy Purchasing Agent-WCC will handle other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess either:
(a) A Bachelor's Degree and five years of experience where the primary function of the position was the buying/purchasing of a wide variety of commodities in the purchasing department of a large private or public organization and included the writing and negotiating of contractual agreements, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR
(b) A High School or equivalency diploma and nine years of experience as described in (a), including writing and negotiating contractual agreements and the one year of supervisory experience.
The successful candidate will also have:
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a wide variety of responsibilities in a fast paced, dynamic organization.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple and often competing demands under deadline pressure.
- Ability to develop operating procedures with sound internal controls.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and influence others to meet organizational goals.
All candidates must have evidence of, responsiveness to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and evidence of equity-minded practice in all college policies, practices, and personnel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: It is preferred that the successful candidate have:
- Master's degree in public administration or related field.
- Experience in governmental operations or higher education administration.
- Experience in County processes and procedures.
- Experience with PeopleSoft ERP.
Additional Information:
POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $102,151. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $157,702. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit and/or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
WORK SCHEDULE: The work schedule is Monday through Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
