If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our systems interoperability team at APL!

 

We are seeking a highly capable, creative, motivated, and hard-working engineer who is passionate about warfighter missions and ensuring defense of US and Allied Assets. You will join a diverse team of engineers and scientists who work on ground-breaking projects that span design to test analysis efforts developing solutions for warfighting architectures.

 

As an Interoperability and Communications Systems Engineer on our team ...

  • Advise on and implement approaches to integrate concepts and capabilities into a larger network or mission.
  • Perform analysis of tactical data link and communication system architectures.
  • Communicate proposed ideas and scenarios to internal and external program leadership including government sponsors.
  • Collaborate in a team environment to develop innovative solutions to our nation’s challenges including developing the C5I architecture to integrate autonomous systems into the armed forces.
  • Develop sequence of events to drive integration of new systems.
  • Participate in improvements to and leading of APL Tactical Data Link training.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a B.S. degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Have 3 or more years experience working system integration, including strong understanding of integrating concepts and capabilities into a larger network or mission with attention to detail.
  • Have experience working with Link-16.
  • Are able and willing to travel up to 50% of your time. Travel may be domestic or international and may include embarking upon naval vessels or aircraft.
  • Are willing to work in a closed area.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have 3+ years experience serving as a Joint Interface Control Officer or similar billet supporting operations.
  • Have a M.S. degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Have experience as a Joint Interface Control Officer Course (JICO) or service equivalent.
  • Have experience with the Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) to achieve interdependence and operational effectiveness, integration and interoperability of Tactical Data Links (TDL) to contribute to the Common Tactical Picture (CTP), writing and championing an Interface Change Proposal (ICP), and/or planning and management of tactical data through gateways or extended interfaces. 
  • Hold an active Secret government security clearance and are capable of attaining a Top Secret/SCI government security clearance.

Base pay will take into account the selected candidate’s knowledge, experience, skill and/or abilities with consideration for internal parity. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.  APL provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, part-time study and training and development. Base pay range for this role: $90,000 - $220,000.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
