Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The GIS Application Developer will develop and refine essential UMD web-mapping system application features, functions, and user interfaces for use with Facilities Management (FM) and campus-wide GIS applications and will assist the Enterprise GIS Manager in the maintenance of the official UMD campus web-mapping and enterprise GIS systems. The GIS Applications Developer will receive minimal supervision while managing general GIS systems programming workload and the enterprise GIS application development environment. The position works closely with the GIS application development team and FM Information Technology Services (FM-ITS) the Division of Information Technology (DIT) staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient with Esri ArcGIS Web Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Software Development Kits (SDKs) (ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript).
- Knowledge of GIS and database fundamentals.
- Skill in the use of Esri ArcGIS product suite and ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise/Server REST service design and management.
- Skill in the use of Esri Web AppBuilder, Experience Builder, and ArcGIS Dashboards.
- Proficiency in Arcade and developing SQL queries.
- Advanced knowledge of Python and GIS-relevant programing and scripting methods.
- Knowledge of modern web design and development practices in the context of tabular and spatial data presentation.
- Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ability to assimilate new programming languages and technologies.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong technical communication and documentation skills.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Studies, or related field.
- Master’s Degree and/or Advanced Level Professional Certification in GIS, Computer Science, Information Management, or related field.
- Experience managing and maintaining application development environments.
- Experience with Esri Calcite Design System.
- Experience with Git and distributed version control systems.
- Experience working with (and managing) an application development team.
- Experience managing and maintaining relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and Oracle.
- Experience converting data with ETL tools and/or experience applying other advanced programmatic data management methods is also desired.
