Title of Position: Senior Safety & Security Officer (SSSO)
Bargaining Unit/Anticipated Salary Range: MEA Administrator; Level IV (Pending Classification); $55,214.87 - $64,009.18
Position Start Date: October 2024
Responsibilities: The Senior Safety & Security Officer will plan, organize, direct, and evaluate activities to ensure the public safety of all students, employees and the EMCC community. The SSSO will oversee the campus Safety Department and will be responsible for the direction and supervision of contracted security staff. The position will develop and implement security operations, programs and initiatives for students, staff, and the public. This position will also enforce college policy and comply with local ordinances to support the goals and mission of the College. The SSSO is responsible for campus environmental health and safety compliance and will play an integral role in ensuring an environment that fosters student success, external customer satisfaction, and compliance with applicable state and federal laws. The SSSO will manage contracted services for security and central fleet vehicles. Serves as lead campus compliance officer and investigates and participates in relevant Title IX issues.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field required (equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis). Experience working in or directing public safety programs. Experience and ability to respond effectively in high pressure emergency situations involving multiple groups or agencies.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of safety communications systems, policies, and practices.
- Awareness of Clery Act compliance.
- Experience with environmental health and safety.
- Previous experience in college or academic environment highly desirable.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative working environment with students, faculty, senior managers, and outside agencies.
- Title IX training and experience
