Position Summary:
The Director of Human Resource will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization's mission and talent strategy.
The Director of Human Resources manages and provides input to the development and implementation of the strategic plan and can apply previous experience, outsourced resources or learn at an accelerated rate to plan, communicate, launch, train and establish success metrics and ultimately achievement or the need to change approach.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee the administration of HR including planning, setting priorities for culture, compliance, headcount management, personnel supervision and evaluation, organizational structure, and service quality.
- Jointly oversee management of all payroll functions. Works closely with Finance and ensures confidentiality of information.
- Oversee HR operations and management, including compensation, benefits, talent management, performance management, staffing and employee development, policies, record retention, etc.
- Monitor legal compliance with State, Federal and local employment laws. Respond appropriately to employee relations issues including conducting investigations; attend unemployment hearings and liaison with outside attorneys.
- Research, develop, recommend, and execute creative strategies to implement the organization's race equity goals. Specifically, review current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder the organization's diversity equity inclusion (DEI) goals.
- Prepare all HR reporting, including internal personnel reports, state, and federal reporting and annual 5500s for benefit plans in conjunction with Finance.
- Plan events and programs supporting employee engagement, staff morale, and cohesion.
- Researches, develops, recommends, and executes creative strategies to foster the organization diversity goals.
- Administer the company health plan. Provide leadership in establishing and reviewing benefits and programs to evaluate their effectiveness and economic feasibility. Negotiate health plan rates and coverage with support from the CFO, COO and CEO.
- Interact with organizations insurance broker/carriers for employee/volunteer related incidents.
- Oversee workers compensation program, participate in Safety Committee.
- Maintain the HR department budget. Aid in developing compensation and benefits budgets and in maintaining budgetary controls.
- Responsible for supporting and aligning with Philabundance cultural pillars. Ensuring communications, actions, and interactions reflect a focus on People, Professionalism, Partnerships, and Progress.
Educational Achievement:
- Minimum of Education or experience equal to a bachelors degree, minimum of 8 years direct executive leadership in Human Resources, Legal or related field.
- SHRM Certification highly preferred
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years in a nonprofit or corporate role aligned with leadership role. Experience in Human Resources or directly related role required.
- Minimum of 5 years of dedicated leadership responsibilities, direct reports, or similar role at executive level of responsibilities and decision making.
- Previous expertise successfully managing compliance, legal, confidential and sensitive information, situations and data. Strong employee relations expertise is critical.
- Previous experience working with a diverse cross section of teams. Ability to function as a liaison, intermediary and point person for an executive, related department activity.
- Expertise in compensation, employee relations, budgeting, succession planning, culture development and change management.
- Experience establishing, developing, maintaining and enhancing a strong culture of diversity supported by training, process review/audit, and change management as is needed.
- Experience creating detailed and accurate complex reports, including financials, investments, strategic goals, and company status.
- Successfully established metrics, on time delivery support, partner satisfaction and efficiencies within standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Successful experience with problem solving and ability to stay nimble in an evolving environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in a logistics, non-profit or food distribution industry.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proven ability to inspire results through a multi-tier organization, and successfully influence and educate the topic of food insecurity, public policy as it relates to our neighbors in need and support through communication and events. Lead by example management style.
- Proven Project Management skills. This includes the ability to plan projects, delegate tasks and monitor project timelines and exceed or meet deadlines. Establish a current state, desired future state with metrics, financials and an established outcome with clear understand of what will be accomplished with success.
- Exceptional change management skills: clear vision and strategy, employee engagement, process improvement, data-driven decision making.
- Demonstrated proficiency in developing and sustaining effective working relationships with all levels of management, peers, and subordinates.
- Demonstrated expertise in translating the laws to appropriately applied policy, employee relations actions, and reinforce and educate teams to comply with established standards.
- Demonstrate cognitive ability to: provide direction as well as follow directions and routines, work independently with appropriate judgment, read words and numbers, concentrate, memorize, recall, identify logical connections and determine sequence of response, process proactively and identify near and long-term future needs as well as evaluate problems and escalate/inform management as is necessary.
- Administrative capability to work with databases, produce reports, communication, analysis and present internally and externally preferred. Must be willing to learn and add new technologies.
Preferred:
- Previous expertise and success in workflow analysis with a direct tie to output and finances.
- Previous expertise in Agile, Lean, or other methodologies highly preferred.
- Previous success in identifying training needs, establishing resources (internal or external) to deliver training and achieve staff development in competencies and areas which support our 4-pillar foundation.
- Proficiency utilizing an HRIS; experience with Paycom preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Must have the ability to be available evenings, weekends, and take on extended hours as business demands.
- Occasionally, must be willing to travel within the and outside of the service area (employee can use public transportation, rideshare services, personal vehicle or other means). Must be physically compatible with travel, office events, and meetings.
- Bend, stop, crouch, climb, stand, sit, walk, and turn/pivot throughout an 8-hour shift, 5 days a week.
- Move/lower, push/pull and carry objects/parcels no greater than 50 pounds; when moving/lowering, pushing/pulling and carrying objects/parcels greater than 50 pounds use 2 people or mechanical.
- Ability to work inside a freezer with a temperature in the range of -10 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit as well as in a humid warehouse.
- Ability to operate pallet jack, both manual and power, and ride jack to load/unload trucks.
- Reach, grasp, and maintain control of items and materials used to perform activities associated with delivering and picking up packages.
- Perform additional tasks using simple hand grasp, fine hand manipulation, and reach associated with assigned tasks such as keying.
- Work in an environment that will contain variable temperatures and humidity, outside weather conditions, exposure to noise, dust/dirt, confined work areas.
- See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper safety conditions.
