Job Description
eDiscovery Review AttorneyCooley is seeking an eDiscovery Review Attorney to join the Litigation & E-Discovery Services team.
Position summary: As part of the Litigation and E-Discovery Services (LEDS) group, the E-Discovery Review Attorney provides support related to the discovery of electronically stored information in litigation. The E-Discovery Review Attorney has strong experience with electronic discovery review platforms and document review workflows. In addition to performing substantive document review, this attorney manages teams of temporary contract attorneys and provides project management support to Cooley case teams. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Position responsibilities:
- Plan, conduct, and supervise strategic document review and production
- Provide guidance and legal support to case teams with document review process management, including preparing review playbooks, review protocols, training reviewers, supervising reviews, privilege review processes and communicating effectively with case teams and vendors regarding project status, issues, and timelines
- Advise attorneys and clients on best practices and procedures related to ESI search and review in litigation, regulatory investigations, and other matters
- Coordinate with the Firm's Director of Contract Professionals regarding the hiring and administrative aspects of temporary review attorneys
- Manage teams of temporary review attorneys including tracking metrics and providing feedback on performance, quality control, and other issues as they arise
- Perform substantive document review hosted in Relativity and other document review platforms
- Review and code documents for relevance, issues, confidentiality, and privilege
- Perform privilege review and redactions, and assist with preparation of privilege logs
- Perform targeted searches to assist case teams with fact development and deposition preparation
- Coordinate with other LEDS business professionals to perform final quality control and confirm proper workflows have been followed
- Recommend strategies and help design defensible and cost-effective document review plans
- Assist case teams with keyword development, document sampling and other strategies to reduce document review costs
- Stay current on developing E-Discovery law and procedures, including, the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and applicable state rules regarding privilege and proportionality
- Coordinate and work collaboratively with LEDS analysts, managers and trial services specialists
- Ensure firm policies and procedures are followed to manage risk and costs
- Work closely with department management regarding strategic direction of electronic discovery services to improve services, increase efficiency and reduce risk and cost
- Travel to other Cooley offices and client sites as necessary and directed by LEDS management
- Expectation to bill time on hourly basis
- Ensure accurate and timely entry of billable and non-billable time and review IntApp entries prior to month-end closing
- All other duties as assigned or required
Skills and experience:
Required:
- After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications
- Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
- Ability to travel, as required
- JD Degree
- 2+ years performing and managing complex litigation document reviews and electronic discovery projects
- Active member in good standing of state bar, in the state in which they reside and Cooley-based office
- Experience with relational document review databases such as Relativity
Preferred:
- Experience working in a law firm in a litigation or E-Discovery attorney capacity
- Experience working for an E-Discovery service provider
- Some electronic discovery certifications or specialized training

The expected annual pay for this position with a work schedule of 40 hours per week is $180,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate.
