The  Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care (NMPC) is based in the heart of central and south London. It includes the  Cicely Saunders Institute for Palliative Care, Policy & Rehabilitation, the premier Institute for Palliative Care, bringing together clinical, research and education teams.

Our applied clinical and health multidisciplinary research transforms therapies, the healthcare experience and outcomes for patients and those important to them, wherever they are cared for. Our award-winning NMPC education programmes span pre-registration nursing and midwifery, and multidisciplinary post-graduate taught and research programmes.

About the role

This is an outstanding development opportunity for a talented individual who wishes to advance excellent and innovative research and education, focusing on healthcare leadership. We are seeking an individual for the Programme Lead role for the new MSc in Healthcare Management being developed in collaboration and partnership with King’s Business School Executive Education.

The successful applicant will also lead the Clinical Leadership module at level 7 which is delivered as a hybrid module both in the UK and overseas. The module combines a critical understanding of leadership principles in the context of team working, management of care delivery and use of evidence-based practice for problem solving and outcomes management. The role will require some international travel to our education partners in Singapore and Hong Kong for the Clinical Leadership module.

The successful applicant will be responsible to the Head of Department, Adult Nursing and will work collaboratively with the King’s Business School, NMPC International Office, MSc programme leads and the Associate Dean and Vice Dean International.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and is offered as an indefinite contract.

The role will require some international travel to our education partners in Singapore and Hong Kong to deliver the Clinical Leadership module, each trip being up to 5 days. Currently this will involve two trips overall each year.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. Registration as a nurse with the NMC or a registered healthcare professional with HCPC or General Pharmaceutical Council; or other international equivalence and an MSc or equivalent relevant to the themes of the Faculty and this role
2. Experience of the planning and delivering high-quality evaluated education at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels with a strong focus on a high-quality inclusive student experience and success. For Senior Lecturer this will include a major education-related leadership role with evidence of improvement in student experience
3. Evidence of commitment to continued development in evidence-based practice, research methods and evidence relevant to care, with up-to-date knowledge, skills and accomplishments, able to supervise MSc and undergraduate student projects and critically appraise a wide range of relevant research, including data presentation and basic analysis
4. Ability to work well as an effective and inclusive member of teams and networks and to share and encourage good practice in teaching and research and to inspire and motivate others, including in challenging environments. For Senior Lecturer the applicant should have an emergent understanding of the range of work underway in the Faculty and across King’s, to enhance this team work
5. Excellent administrative and organisational skills, underpinned by strong interpersonal skills and personal effectiveness, as well as excellent written, verbal and digital communication skills with the ability to deliver high quality work and projects to deadlines, work efficiently and prioritise appropriately, and take individual responsibility for planning and undertaking work
6. A commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity for staff and students
7. Publications, conference presentations and/or applicant on funding to support educational enhancement, service improvement, research and/or scholarship. For Senior Lecturer evidence of strong publication history including acting as first or last author on papers for a relevant professional or academic journal or book chapter in the last three years
8. Experience of developing, delivering and evaluating education related to healthcare leadership and management

Desirable criteria

1. PhD or equivalent relevant to themes of the Faculty and this role
2. Experience of innovative and effective approaches to teaching, including distance learning, blended learning, digital learning and or simulation (virtual and/or face to face), with appropriate training completed
3. Experience of co-leading/leading research projects, education activities or clinical service. For Senior Lecturer evidence of being an applicant or co-applicant on grant applications for education innovation and evaluation
4. Experience of course development, with creative approaches to assessment., providing robust, developmental and constructive feedback at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels
5. Proven commitment to innovation and student learning in education, to support student welfare, and enabling students’ personal and professional development, and providing academic advice and pastoral support
