Assistant Director of Human Resources
Pratt School of Engineering is seeking a process driven and innovative Assistant Director of Human Resources to join our talented team. This is an exciting opportunity to effect major change, as we develop and implement initiatives in all areas of the employment life cycle in partnership with colleagues across the school and university.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference granted to candidates with four to six years of experience of an increasingly complex nature in human resources, learning and organizational development and project management.

Human Resource Project Management and Employee Engagement (40%)

Bearing a continuous improvement mindset, you will identify gaps and facilitate the effective integration of human resources and payroll information systems into work processes to create efficiencies and decrease administrative burden. You will independently lead and manage human resource projects in alignment with Schoolwide strategic plans steering timelines, cost, and efficiency. Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones. Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, required documentation, and presentations. Build, develop, and grow relationships vital to the success of the project.

You will identify, document, and implement targeted best practices in fostering a positive and engaging work culture that is nimble and responsive to the needs of Pratt community. You will conduct research, create reports, and develop data dashboards reflecting human resource trends to drive decision making.

You will assist with development and maintenance of procedures, guidance documents, checklists, and user-friendly tools. Maintain detailed working knowledge of Duke policies and procedures affecting payroll, employment, classification, salary administration, employee relations and other HR disciplines. You will have opportunities to engage your creative side as you collaborate with Pratt Communications to build out and maintain the Pratt Careers website, a knowledge and document repository for the Pratt Intranet, Pratt HR Newsletter and social media. You will build community across Pratt HR teams throughout the school in the form of mentoring and managing the Pratt HR Teams Channel. Coordinate logistics for the monthly Pratt Human Resource Meetings including managing the agenda and sourcing both topics and guest speakers. In absence of Director of Human Resources and Faculty Affairs, attend University and Provost Area HR meetings. You will also triage the Pratt Human Resources email account and maintain the shared professional development accounts. Maintain annual calendars for job tasks and human resources events.
Pratt Learning and Organizational Development (30%)

In this role, you will have an opportunity to build and manage a new school wide learning and organizational development program, coordinating and implementing a variety of professional development courses and services designed to promote the career growth of Pratt employees. You will use assessment methods to identify and address development needs and consult with departments and units to address them using new or existing resources.

You will develop and implement procedures for the Pratt HR Professional Development Program, coordinating, designing and facilitating structured learning experiences ensuring quality and consistency. This may include tasks such as pre or post-assessments, curriculum development, course evaluation, delivery coordination, documentation of training, data, and expense management.

You will also coordinate the Pratt Mentoring Programs, tracking mentoring arrangements, documentation, and expenses. Organize university award submissions and development opportunities with Pratt leadership.
Schoolwide Administrative Tasks (30%)

You will lead compliance by tracking responses on central office and schoolwide requests such as annual evaluations, effort certifications, reports, etc., driving communications to ensure deadlines are met. Liaise with departments/units on payroll and HR actions and maintain status reports on current job postings. You will utilize your consultative skills offering guidance and assistance to HR team members. Lead schoolwide personnel file management for departments and units, conducting random audits to confirm maintenance and completion.

You will complete administrative tasks in support of the annual budgeting process and salary setting, including system entries, data requests, reports, org charts, process tracking, etc. This may require tool and process development.

You will exercise delegated authority for specific transactions such as payroll forms and supporting documentation for HR actions, etc. requiring Dean’s Office approval. Using independent judgement, precedent, or interpretation, you will consult with departments and provide guidance on university and school policies and procedures.

Potentially supervise and coordinate the work of designated employees, reviewing completed work for adherence to instructions or correctness.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires a general business or personnel background generally equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience
Work requires three years of business and/or administrative experience, with exposure to human resources activities, to acquire knowledge of human resources policies and procedures necessary to manage the personnel activities of a department of division OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
