General Accountant (GEN ACCOUNTANT 3)

Job Description

Reporting to the General Accounting Supervisor, this position manages major and minor capital projects. Establishes and maintains plant funds and accounts appropriate the budget, monitor budget overdrafts, reconcile, and review monthly expenditures and prepares semi-annual capitalizations. In additions this position assists with monthly and yearly fiscal closes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related area or equivalent years of experience.
  • Experience in fund accounting including audit techniques and internal control standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of generally accounting principles (GMP), theory practice and standards as they relate to general ledger maintenance and reconciliation and financial statement preparation.
  • Thorough knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) accounting standards related to financial statement preparation.
  • Analytical skills to resolve com ex problems that may affect multiple organizations or functions.
  • Decision making skills to review financial information, define issues, and develop strategies to resolve issues including the ability to analyze and calculate complex financial formulas.
  • Written communication skills to develop training materials, written memos, policies, procedures, etc., and convey them to a diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accounting experience in a higher education environment, preferably UC.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Financials.
  • Organizational skills to organize, coordinate, and set priorities effectively; multi-task and adapt to changing priorities on multiple projects.

Department Overview

Position assists with the colleagues from all the other UC campuses and the Office of the President and with campus-wide staff including the Medical Center and Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Mange the financial aspects of capital assets and plant projects, as well as the acquisition, tracking, and disposition of capital assets performing an array of essential services throughout the life cycle of a capital project.
