Job Summary

This position, under the direction of the Fiscal Manager, serves as the team lead in the cashier services area and provides a variety of complex support and assignments. Primary oversight for the monitoring and integrity and accuracy of student accounts, financial transactions, enforcing policies and procedures, daily cashier processing, researches and resolves problems. Fiscal duties include the review, research, and technical support to staff and management in providing data, financial reports. 

Essential Functions

30% – Manages student receivables and payments through the Cashier’s office. This includes handling collections, tuition calculations, monthly billing, third-party contracts, vault counts, and responding to district cash count discrepancies. Also responsible for daily reconciliations of cash receipts and deposits, managing payment plans, and training and providing work direction to staff.

30% – Collaborates with various college departments and divisions, including Admissions, Records and Registration, Financial Aid, and Early Outreach. Provides guidance on both routine and non-routine student financial matters, researches and resolves student account issues, prepares and analyzes recurring and ad-hoc reports, and delivers customer service.

20% – Processes and researches complex student awards.

10% – Maintains the fiscal integrity of college cash funds, expense advances, and reimbursements. Develops and evaluates internal control systems to prevent and detect fraud and irregularities, including implementing security procedures.

10% – Develops, maintains, and documents business processes and procedures related to cash handling, cash management, and billing. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of fiscal support experience related to area of assignment

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
  2. Three (3) years of experience working in a cashier type setting working with cash, checks, and credit cards
  3. Experience working with financial reconciliation 
  4. Three (3) years of experience working with an online student information or financial system, preferably PeopleSoft.
  5. Experience in an educational setting in a fiscal or financial position.
  6. Experience developing operational manuals, policy or procedures.

Special Working Conditions

  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements
  • Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May require numerous evenings or weekends
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
