Position Summary:
The Communications & Engagement Manager is a dynamic and multifaceted role responsible for creating, executing, and overseeing communication strategies that effectively engage and connect The Diabetes Family Connection (The DFC) with its stakeholders—volunteers, community members, partners, and beyond. This individual will work to elevate the visibility of the DFC’s mission, increase community engagement, and foster long-term relationships through innovative, strategic communication efforts. The ideal candidate will be a passionate self-starter, able to thrive in a collaborative environment, and possess strong communication skills, experience in volunteer management, event coordination, and storytelling marketing campaigns. Adaptability and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are key to success in this role.
This is a remote position. The individual must live in North Carolina and be willing to attend events throughout the state.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Content Development, Digital Engagement & Storytelling: Develop and create branded content for annual communication campaigns across all media platforms, including social media, newsletters, emails, and community outreach materials, ensuring alignment with the DFC’s mission and values. Update, refine, and optimize the DFC website to enhance user engagement and create an engaging online experience for both new and returning visitors. Enrich storytelling through innovative multimedia content (videos, photos, etc.) that captures the essence of the organization’s impact, values, and mission.
- Volunteer & Community Engagement: Track and manage community engagement requests, including PMA Care Package requests, volunteer inquiries, and other forms submitted by community members, ensuring timely responses and follow-up. Build and nurture authentic relationships with DFC community members and stakeholders, fostering a sense of belonging and support. In collaboration with DFC staff and volunteers, develop a recruitment strategy, training guide, and skills assessment tools for volunteers at all levels, ensuring ongoing volunteer development and effective engagement throughout the organization.
- Staff Partner to Volunteer Leadership:Serve as the primary staff partner for volunteer chairs in the Community Engagement and Communication areas, working closely to ensure the success of their respective initiatives.
- Event Logistics & Community Engagement Programs:Plan and manage DFC community engagement programs and events logistics, including volunteer registration, event-day coordination, vendor relationships, and communication related to resources and location details.
- Creative Problem Solving & Adaptability:Respond to the fast-growing needs of the non-profit organization while staying focused on the DFC’s mission and strategic priorities. Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in overcoming challenges and seizing new opportunities.
- Tracking, Reporting & Engagement Analytics: Track and analyze communication metrics (social media engagement, website traffic, email open rates) and community member engagement using CRM or other software systems to understand volunteer, donor, and participant life cycles. Provide regular updates to the Executive Director, DFC Board, Marketing Committee, and community, using insights to refine strategies and improve engagement processes across all touch points.
Qualifications:
- Experience:Proven experience in community building, communications, volunteer management, and event logistics, particularly within non-profit or community-focused organizations.

- Strong communication, storytelling, and interpersonal skills
- Expertise in social media platforms, email campaigns, and digital marketing
- Ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and priorities
- Event planning and volunteer coordination skills
- Proficient in multimedia content creation (photos, videos, graphics)

- Knowledge of Diabetes (Preferred):A strong understanding of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and its impact on individuals and families is a plus, but not required. Enthusiasm to learn about and engage with the T1D community is essential.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation: 45,000 AnnualPackage includes a stipend for retirement funds and insurance.
